Wind: air in motion relative to the surface of the Earth. Vertical components of atmospheric motion are relatively small, so the term is used to denote almost exclusively the horizontal component.Wind is often described by these two characteristics:

  • Wind speed: the velocity attained by a mass of air traveling horizontally through the atmosphere and it is often measured with an anemometer in kilometers per hour (KPH), miles per hour (MPH), knots, or meters per second (MPS).
  • Wind direction: is the one from where a wind comes and it is measured by an instrument called a wind vane.
